Salpointe Weekly Peek – September 20, 2024

Weekly Prayer

Deacon Scott Pickett

Lord ~
Please put Your peace in our hearts.
Because of events within and outside of our Salpointe campus, we, like Martha, are worried and anxious about many things.
Right now everything seems to be out of control in the world around us.
Calm our fears.
Help us to place our trust in You.  In Your goodness and in Your wisdom.
Please strengthen our hope in You.  In Your faithfulness and in Your love for each one of us.
Steady our hearts and minds so that our words, thoughts and actions are based on Your love for us, and not on our fears.
Thank you for blessing and keeping safe our Lancer community.
We place ourselves in Your hands Lord.
Please fill our hearts with Your peace this day.
In Your Son’s name we pray,
Amen.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel…Pray for us.

Advocate for Us All (AforA) Club is hosting a book drive for elementary and middle schools in the Tucson community. AforA has compiled a list of age-appropriate books that celebrate our common humanity. We’re emphasizing the value of students seeing themselves represented in stories, giving visibility to groups and perspectives that are often marginalized and modeling empathy and respect for others who might be different. If you are in a position to donate, simply purchase a book from our Amazon wishlist and click the registry shipping address (Salpointe) to help us reach our goal. Thank you!

Salpointe Catholic’s Sacrament of Confirmation preparation class opportunity
Salpointe Catholic Campus Ministry is blessed to announce that we will be offering the Sacrament of Confirmation right here on campus! Any Lancer who has been Baptized and has received their First Communion are invited to participate. Preparation classes will be held on Tuesdays from 2:40-4 p.m. in room 210, starting on Tuesday, October 15. Make sure to register by the deadline of October 1st on the Campus Ministry webpage. Additionally, there will be a meeting for students and parents on Tuesday, October 1 at 2:40 p.m. in room 210.
While Salpointe’s Campus Ministry has been given permission by the Diocese of Tucson to provide preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, the expectation for families is that preparation for the Sacraments of Baptism and First Communion be done at the parish level. There has been a big demand for Baptism and First Communion preparation at Salpointe, so if a Lancer family is in need of assistance in determining which parish to pursue these Sacraments, Salpointe’s Campus Ministry would be happy to assist in any way. Please contact Deacon Pickett at spickett@salpointe.org.
Freshmen Day of Recollection
We invite our newest Lancers to embrace the Real Presence of Jesus so we can experience grace and be present to others as His people. It is essential to cultivate self-awareness and be open to the Holy Spirit’s guidance in forming friendships and serving others. However, it can be difficult in our daily lives to find time for reflection, connection and to feel a sense of belonging.
This Freshmen Day of Recollection will offer the class of 2028 an opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and their peers so they can experience deep and authentic relationships and be a real presence on campus over the next four years. They will come to know that they are loved, welcomed, known and belong at Salpointe Catholic.
Salpointe Campus Ministry is privileged to guide our Lancers on this spiritual journey, with the support of seniors and juniors, By the end of this retreat, students will have a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships and God’s love for them.
The Freshman Day of Recollection will be Saturday, November 16 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration deadline is Friday, October 18. Please register using this link.
Sacrament of Confirmation Preparation Classes
Classes will take place every Tuesday afternoon from 2:40-3:40 p.m. starting on October 15th. They will be led by various professionals from our theology department and campus ministry team.
We will closely monitor attendance, so please ensure that Tuesday afternoons work well with your family’s schedule.
To enroll in Salpointe’s Confirmation preparation class, families must provide proof of registration at a parish within the Diocese of Tucson where they plan to attend.
Details regarding official registration for Salpointe’s Confirmation preparation class are available on the Salpointe Catholic Campus Ministry webpage.
We are truly honored to support our students in their preparation for their last Sacrament of Initiation here on campus.

Fine Arts

Stevens Gallery-Artist Demo
Trish Hastings-Sargent, a featured artist in the “Viewpoints” exhibition at Stevens Gallery, will showcase her Fiber Landscapes during Gallery hours on Saturday, September 21 from noon-4 p.m. Trish says this about her work: “To create my imagery, I use many different types of fabrics and textures. I spend a great deal of time using a technique called thread painting, to give the images dimension and texture.” Trish has always gravitated to landscapes in her artwork, skillfully using fibers to mimic the appearance of wood or rusted metal. Growing up in New Bedford, MA, a town known for its textile mills, Trish was surrounded by scraps that inspired her creativity.
