Weekly Prayer

Deacon Scott Pickett

Let nothing trouble you. Let nothing frighten you. Everything passes. God never changes. Patience obtains all. Whoever has God wants for nothing.  God alone is enough. Amen.
Our Lady of Mount Carmel…Pray for us.

Please begin praying for the leaders and retreatants of Kairos 299 as they prepare to leave on their retreat Sunday, October 27.

Seniors

College Updates for Seniors
Most seniors should be applying to colleges this semester. Just a quick reminder: whether you apply directly through the college’s website or use the Common App, it’s essential to list the colleges in Scoir under the “Applying” or “Applied” column. If you don’t, we won’t know to send important school documents like your transcript and, for some colleges, letters of recommendation. Make sure to identify your application method and keep track of the deadlines.
As you prepare for college, don’t forget to apply for scholarships, learn about Financial Aid and how to pay for college.

Fine Arts

Fall Musical
We invite you to Hadestown: Teen Edition. This musical goes beyond simply retelling an ancient Greek myth; it’s an exploration of faith, belief and the human spirit. With its powerful music and storytelling, it encourages us to reflect on the nature of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. Come join us on this breathtaking journey. Performances run from October 25-November 3, with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Get your tickets here. Check out the flyer here.
Stevens Gallery/Artist Demo
Tamara Scott Anderson, an exhibiting artist in “Viewpoints,” will showcase her fiber techniques on October 19 from 12:30-4 p.m. in Stevens Gallery. Tamara shares that her passion for fabrics and textures led her to develop her own distinctive form of weaving fabrics into a structure of hardware cloth. With contemplative intention, she brings together a blend of weaving, stitching and beading to create her unique three-dimensional textile sculptures. Images include impressionistic desert landscapes, desert flowers and, most recently, the “Street” series, which are made from reclaimed fabrics and materials found on the streets. Her work moves fiber art from traditional craft into the world of three-dimensional fiber sculptures.
University of Arizona High School Honor Choir
Congratulations to our very own Neviya Mendez ’25 who made it into the 2024 University of Arizona High School Honor Choir! She will be singing in the Honor Choir concert on Saturday, October 26 at 2 p.m. at the U of A School of Music.
This concert marks the culmination of the 2024 University of Arizona High School Honor Choir weekend, where selected students from across Arizona spend two days making music and learning from U of A music professors. The concert features performances by the Honor Choir and the University Singers under the direction of Dr. M. Nicole Davis, the Symphonic Choir under the direction of Dr. Elizabeth Schauer, as well as solo performances by outstanding high school and University of Arizona vocalists.
The concert is free and open to the public. Please consider coming to hear some beautiful choral music, and to support Neviya and represent our Salpointe Community!
