Salpointe Weekly Peek – August 30, 2024

Weekly Prayer

Deacon Scott Pickett

Heavenly Father,

Saint Paul tells us: “There are many gifts, but it is always the same Spirit;

there are many different ways of serving, but it is always the same Lord…

The particular manifestation of the Spirit granted to each one is to be used for the general good.”

Lord, You have gifted each one of us at Salpointe Catholic with unique potential for doing good for the Lancer family.

May we take a moment to thank You in silence for the gifts and love shared at Kairos 298 that just returned to campus yesterday.

Loving God, we thank You for these gifts and experiences, unique to each of us.

May we be grateful for servant leadership within our Salpointe family and the opportunities to experience and share our gifts with one another.

In Your Son’s Name we pray,

Amen. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Pray for us.

AforA has compiled a list of age-appropriate books that celebrate our common humanity. We’re emphasizing the value of students seeing themselves represented in stories, giving visibility to groups and perspectives that are often marginalized and modeling empathy and respect for others who might be different. If you are in a position to donate, simply purchase a book from our Amazon wishlist to help us reach our goal.

Wellness

September 3 Mental Health Class Rotations

Get ready to level up your well-being! As part of Salpointe’s Wellness Program, we’re excited to bring students an inspiring day dedicated to mental health, self-care and making positive choices on September 3, 2024. Here’s what each class will be exploring:

Freshman Class

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Southern Arizona will be presenting their “Ending the Silence” presentation. The presenter will be Vana Dee Lewis, known as #FamousFromAHashTag, an artist and community advocate from Tucson. She is recognized for her work in mental health awareness, youth empowerment and holistic living. Vana is the founder of The #WORTHY Movement, which promotes self-worth and empowerment through various workshops and presentations. These workshops address mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, aiming to help individuals, especially youth, develop and sustain healthy lifestyles.

Sophomore Class

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will be presenting their Power of You(th)® program that provides youth with research-based information regarding the risks associated with underage drinking and substance use.

MADD aims to equip young people with the skills to stand up against peer pressure and inspire them to take positive actions, while also encouraging their friends to make the right choices. The choices you make today shape your future.

Junior Class

Zion Givens will be presenting his “Am I Trippin?” presentation. In this presentation Zion will share personal stories and practical insights to destigmatize teen mental health. The session not only explores the feeling of “Am I Trippin?” but assures teens that they aren’t alone in their struggles. Through open conversations, challenging societal norms and fostering a supportive community, join us to break down barriers, promote acceptance and embrace the path to mental well-being together. This presentation is a safe space for teens to connect, share and discover that they’re not alone in their mental health journey.

Senior Class

Tucson Police Department Lieutenant Rudy Dominguez will be speaking on the real life dangers of using drugs and vaping. He will be sharing the impact of drugs on our brains, emotions and bodies. Additionally, Lt. Dominguez will highlight how drug use not only harms the drug user, but also affects their loved ones. He aims to help students grasp the serious consequences of a single poor choice and how it can drastically alter their lives and future. Seniors will soon be entering adulthood and the college arena, where dangers lurk in every corner. The more information they have, the better they will be equipped to protect themselves and “Just Say No.”
