Mia Castro ’25 Celebrates ADA Anniversary at White House

Mia Castro ’25 visited the White House in September to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and to celebrate disability pride. Accompanied by her mother and sister, Mia listened to an inspiring speech highlighting the significance of the ADA. She was surrounded by others with disabilities and had the chance to connect with numerous CEOs, entrepreneurs and influencers dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the disabled community.
She was invited back to the White House later that month where her sister delivered a speech celebrating Team USA’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Mia and her family enjoyed time in the China room, where they had the opportunity to meet lawmakers and politicians and discuss the importance of incorporating adaptive sports in schools. Reflecting on the day, Mia shared: “When my sister spoke, I nearly cried. Even though I’ve heard her words a millions times, they remind me of how hard both of us have worked to get to where we are. It’s a dream for both my sister and me to become Paralympians, which made the event even more memorable.”
